Dexter Fletcher (born January 31, 1966 in London , England ) is a British actor and director .

life and career

Fletcher made his first film appearance in 1976 at the age of ten in the comedy Bugsy Malone . In the 1980s he starred in numerous films, including the films The Bounty (1984) and Revolution (1985). Fletcher played other leading roles in the comedy Er? Want! You not? by Damian Harris from 1989 and 1998 in Guy Ritchie's gangster comedy Bube, Dame, König, grAS . In the British hit series Hotel Babylon , Fletcher embodies the chief concierge Tony Casemore. The series premiered in the UK in 2006 and ran in Germany from 2008 to 2010 on the pay-TV channel FOX Channel and in 2010 on Comedy Central .

2011 followed with the film Wild Bill Fletcher's directorial debut, which was positively received by the critics. His second directorial work, the music film Sunshine on Leith , followed in 2013. In 2016 he directed the sports film Eddie the Eagle - Everything is possible . At the end of 2017 he spontaneously took over the direction of the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody from the previously fired Bryan Singer , which was successful worldwide and won several Oscars and Golden Globe Awards . Fletcher had been involved in the project before, but then left during the long pre-production phase. He was not mentioned in the credits for his directorial work at Bohemian Rhapsody and Singer received the sole credit . In 2019 he directed another successful biopic by a musician with Rocketman about Elton John .
