Myron Walden

Myron Walden (born October 18, 1973 in Miami ) is an American jazz musician ( alto and tenor saxophone ).

Myron Walden spent his childhood in New York district of Harlem . Influenced by the music of Charlie Parker , he began to play alto saxophone, attended LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and the Harlem School of the Arts ; his mentors included Yusef Lateef and Donald Byrd . In 1993 he won the Charlie Parker Competition at Lincoln Center ; it was followed by appearances with Wynton Marsalis , Nat Adderley and Lou Donaldson . His debut album Hypnosis was released in 1996 , followed by Like a Flower Seeking the Sun (1999). 2009 Walden released the album Momentum (Demi Sound), which he and his eponymous band took up that line the 1960s Miles Davis oriented quintet and trumpeter Darren Barrett , pianist Eden Ladin , bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Mark Whitfield Jr. play . Walden has also worked on recordings for Omer Avital , Benito Gonzalez , Eric Revis and Josh Roseman ( Treats for the Nightwalker , 2003).
