Götz has been part of the community of Groß Kreutz (Havel) in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in Brandenburg with around 1,500 inhabitants since October 26, 2003 .

history

The wide street village of Götz was first mentioned in 1193 as "Gotiz" in the deed of donation from Margrave Otto I (Brandenburg) to the Cistercian monastery Lehnin . Götz belonged with two thirds of the village to the founding equipment of the monastery from 1180. The remainder was acquired by the monastery in 1295 and 1307. Until 1542 the place belonged to the monastery, then until 1807 to the electoral later royal domain office Lehnin in the district of Zauche. The townscape is determined by large farms. Next to the church made of boulders from the 13th century is the former school made of red brick. The former Lehnschulzengut is a two-storey half - timbered building built around 1800 ; that until 1945 by the Dr. August Oetker KG managed the building that was used as a cultural center and kindergarten until the fall of the Wall, and is now a country inn.

During the GDR era, a state-owned company set up a company holiday camp in the village and maintained it for the children of its employees.

Brickworks in Götzer Berge

In the middle of the 19th century, three brickworks were built in the Götzer Berge district and another in the Havelufer residential area , which burned clay deposits into stones for the up-and-coming Berlin . The brick factory owner Hauptmann Daude built a villa with a park and a water tower . This was later the guest house of the FDGB district committee in Potsdam. Götzer Berge originated as a settlement of the brick makers.

traffic

Götz station was built in 1903 for the up-and-coming brickworks in the town. Today, the hourly regional express is used by many employees to travel to Potsdam and Berlin.

Independent municipality until 2003

In the course of the formation of offices in the state of Brandenburg in 1992, the then still independent municipality of Götz merged with six other municipalities to form the office of Emster-Havel . The official seat was the parish of Jeserig . On October 26, 2003, the new community Groß Kreutz / Emster was formed from the communities Bochow, Deetz, Groß Kreutz, Krielow and Schmergow of the Groß Kreutz office and the communities Götz, Jeserig and Schenkenberg of the Emster-Havel department. The offices of Groß Kreutz and Emster-Havel were dissolved at the same time. The new community Groß Kreutz / Emster was finally renamed to Groß Kreutz (Havel) on July 1, 2004. The wastewater system built in the early 1990s was in debt to Götz and to this day the large community of Groß Kreutz (Havel). The education center of the Chamber of Crafts brings many young people to the village.

Nature and tourism

Large parts of the districts of Götz and the neighboring municipality of Deetz have now been integrated into the Brandenburg Osthavelniederung landscape protection area. The Havel cycle path touched today - havel down seen on the left side - of Werder over Deetz coming the local area. It meanders through deciduous forest on the edge and between former clay pits. The Golmberg (43 m above sea level) is bypassed in a wide arc on a solid road between a lowland and the Götzer Berg (108.6 meters, with a new observation tower). It then continues on the newly fortified Havel dike to the place Gollwitz. The accessible Havel area with its often hidden swimming, fishing and landing stages has been a vacationer's paradise for a hundred years. The restaurant on the headland of New Westerland was also very popular in the past, and excursion steamers regularly docked here. The former local ferry connection from Götz-Havelufer to Weseram across the Havel has long been discontinued. During the GDR era , many buildings were used as company and children's holiday camps.

societies

In earlier times the Götzer people were involved in singing, warrior and cycling clubs. The Thaliaverein Götz performed plays. The Götzer Spätlese senior citizens' association with a wide range of activities stopped working in 2011. While the anglers use their own rooms in Götz Havelufer, the sports club Traktor Götz only plays friendly games. The YMCA runs a youth center in the old school. Today the mountain riflemen have a facility with a rifle shelter and shooting range located on the edge of the forest . The Götzer Schützen have also successfully participated in German championships.
