Since October 26, 2003, Krielow has been part of the community of Groß Kreutz (Havel) in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in Brandenburg . Nearby, on the north side of the Spitzen Berg (district Krielow) on the border with Derwitz , Otto Lilienthal carried out the first short gliding flights with his Derwitz apparatus in 1891 . On September 21, 1991 the Lilienthaldenkmal was erected on the Windmühlenberg between Krielow and Derwitz.

history

A special feature of the 400-inhabitant town is the early German ring wall, which is barely noticeable in the landscape. In 1248 the margraves Johannes I and Otto III donated the village of Krielow to the Cistercian monastery of Lehnin . After a village fire cremated six farms in 1795, they were rebuilt further apart. The windmill on the Chaussee at the Deetz-Schmergow fork in the road was a defining feature for a long time. The Berlin-Magdeburg railway has shaped Krielow since 1846, and the railroad keeper's hut 55 secured the crossing at the end of the village. The Krielow Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded on March 1, 1909 by 17 men. The Krielower were once very active, for example in the warrior club, men's choir, mixed choir, small animal breeders club, fruit growers club and sports club. In the cycling club, bike ball was played. The men's choir existed until 1929, the mixed choir was still active in the 1960s. Until 1944, the fire brigade extinguished fires with the horse-drawn suction and pressure sprayer, then with a trailer TS8 motorized sprayer.

After 1945 the houses on the Chaussee were supplemented by eight houses from a new farmer's settlement. The once 10,000 hectare Havelland fruit-growing region surrounds Krielow. The two restaurants, the Konsum and also the baker, where you had to give up cocoa and flavors for cakes, have mostly been closed since the GDR era, as were the kindergarten and four-class school.

In the youth promotion plan of the community from 1977 the following goals are given: political-ideological work, initiative of the youth in the national economy, intellectual-cultural life and leisure activities. Today the community maintains the soccer field and playground on the Chaussee for the youth. A youth club no longer exists in the 21st century.

During the GDR years and in the post-reunification period, local writer Karl Birkholz created over 600 pages in four volumes, which can be viewed by the local mayor.
