The village of Weseram is part of the municipality of Roskow in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in Brandenburg .

Weseram is not far from the Havel . To the west lies the municipality border with the city of Brandenburg an der Havel .

history

Weseram in the Hochstift Brandenburg

Weseram was in the Hochstift Brandenburg , the imperial principality of the Bishop of the Diocese of Brandenburg , and was therefore not de jure part of the Mark Brandenburg . The village was first mentioned as Wyseram in 1317 , when the Brandenburg bishop Johannes von Thuchem assigned a property that previously belonged to the table goods together with Tieckow to the cathedral monastery. The village had 25 Hufen of land at that time . Groß Weseram was assigned to the cathedral chapter by the Bishop of Brandenburg .In addition, there was the Elbe Slavic colonized Klein Weseram, which was abandoned around 1400 and rebuilt directly near Groß Weseram. In 1641 there were 35 Hufen land in the village. In 1752 the baroque church was built in the village. According to a survey in 1809, a Lehnschulze, ten farmers and one half-farmer, nine Kossäts , two Büdner and four residents lived in Weseram . There was a forge, a windmill, a village pitcher , 35 farms and two feudal farms. A total of 37 campfire sites were counted in the village.

The place name of Weseram is a Slavic nickname , the name means "settlement with people who chop everything up".

Weseram grew in the 19th century. In 1840, 41 residential buildings were identified. In 1860 there were two demolitions in a Weseram colony, five public buildings, 40 residential and 99 farm buildings. In 1900 there were already 63 residential buildings. At the beginning of the 20th century, Weseram was connected to the German railway network. The Westhavelländische Kreisbahnen began operating in 1901. In 1907 the Weseram station was opened on the route to Brandenburg Krakauer Tor . A second stop existed as Weseram Chaussee at a junction to the Brandenburg city railway . In 1938 there were 472 inhabitants in Weseram and in 1946, after the end of the Second World War 744 inhabitants. In the 1960s, operations on the railway line were stopped again. In 2002 Weseram was incorporated into Roskow.

Two buildings in Weseram are listed as architectural monuments . The baroque village church dates from 1752. In addition, a school building from 1912 is included in the list of monuments.

Protected areas

There are a large number of protected areas in the Weseram district. Large areas are part of the Westhavelland and Brandenburger Osthavelniederung landscape protection areas and the Mittlere Havelniederung spa area . There are also sub-areas of the Mötzow-Lünow field mark, which is designated as a protected landscape component, and the Middle Havel FFH area supplement. There are also some protected biotopes and a protected avenue.
