Kyle Bruckmann

Kyle Bruckmann (* 18th August 1971 in Danbury , Connecticut ) is an American musician ( oboe , and English horn , suona , electronics, composition ) and band leader , who in the field of contemporary music , jazz - and improvised music is active.

Live and act

Bruckmann played in punk bands in his youth and studied music and psychology at Rice University in Houston, oboe with Robert Atherholt. During this time he was musical director of the campus radio station KTRU and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa . He received his Masters in 1996 from the University of Michigan , where he studied oboe with Harry Sargous and contemporary improvisation with Ed Sarath . He then moved to San Francisco , where he is part of the local experimental music scene. He also teaches classical music freelance and is a member of the Stockton Symphony and other regional orchestras.

Since then, Bruckmann u. a. with Jim Baker , Anthony Braxton ( Nine Compositions 2003 ), Fred Lonberg-Holm , Jeb Bishop , Harris Eisenstadt ( Ahimsa Orchestra , 2004), Michael Zerang , Guillermo Gregorio , Scott Rosenberg , Bob Marsh , Roscoe Mitchell , Olivia Block and Dana Jessen ( Carve ). Other formations include the EKG ensembles , an electro-acoustic duo with Ernst Karel , the experimental punk band Lozenge and his quintet Wrack , which plays compositions in the field of contemporary jazz and the classical avant-garde. He is also a member of Gene Coleman's Noamnesia Ensemble , which performs compositions by George Crumb , John Cage , Charles Ives , Salvatore Sciarrino , Otomo Yoshihide , Werner Dafeldecker , Cornelius Cardew and Malcolm Goldstein . In the field of jazz he was involved in 15 recording sessions between 1999 and 2013.

Bruckmann's debut album with solo improvisations , Entymology (Barely Auditable Records), was rated by François Couture in Allmusic as "a gorgeous experiment" that " expands the possibilities (and understanding) of the family of double reed instruments". On a classical foundation, Bruckmann's compositions include areas that cross genres such as free jazz , electronic music and post-punk rock .
