Jon Raskin

Jon Raskin (* 1954 in Heppner , Oregon ) is an American saxophonist and composer who has emerged as a member of the Rova Saxophone Quartet .

Live and act

Raskin took saxophone lessons with Eddie Flenner, James Rotter and John Handy and composition with Barney Childs (University of Redlands) and Allaudin Mathieu. From 1974 to 1977 he was musical director of the Tumbleweed Dance Company and then one of the founders of the Rova Saxophone Quartet . In addition to working for Rova , he founded his own quartet in which Liz Allbee (trumpet), John Shiurba (bass) and Gino Robair (drums) play. He also performed in a duo with Kanoko Nishi ( Koto ) and in a trio with Matthew Goodheart and Vladimir Tarasov . He also worked as a sideman for Anthony Braxton and also worked with Pauline Oliveros and Phillip Greenlief . He was also involved in the 25th Anniversary Concert recording of Terry Riley's In C in 1995. As a film composer he worked for Elizabeth Shere ( Just Another Weekend ). He also composed for unusual ensembles ( Telegraphing the Temescal for harp, saxophone quartet and orchestra).

Raskin has also worked on recordings with the Ganelin Trio , Andrea Centazzo , Butch Morris , Wadada Leo Smith ( Yo Miles , 1998) and John Zorn ( Voices in the Wilderness , 2003).
