Lawrence "Larry" Ochs (* 3. May 1949 in New York City ) is an American jazz - saxophonist (tenor and sopranino saxophone) and composer .

Live and act

Larry Ochs first learned the trumpet, but soon switched to the tenor and sopranino saxophone. In 1978 he worked as a record producer and founded his own label, Metalanguage Records . He was also co-founder of the saxophone formation Rova Saxophone Quartet , and worked in Glenn Spearman's Double Trio . As a composer he has worked for numerous commissioned works, such as for the play Goya's LA by Leslie Scalapino (1994) and for the documentary Letters Not About Love (1998) by his sister Jacki Ochs. He also played from 1986 in the trio formation Room (with pianist Chris Brown and drummer William Winant ) and the What We Live Ensemble with bassist Lisle Ellis and drummer Donald Robinson . Ochs recorded several albums under his own name, including a. on the Black Saint Label, and has worked on recordings with Andrea Centazzo , Scott Fields , Ben Goldberg and John Lindberg . He is director of The Fictive Five ensemble with Nate Wooley , Ken Filiano , Pascal Niggenkemper and Harris Eisenstadt .
