Christopher "Weasel" Walter (born May 18, 1972 in Rockford , Illinois ) is an American fusion and jazz musician ( drums , guitar ), composer and band leader .

“Weasel” Walter began playing punk rock as a guitarist at the age of eleven and then was the bass player in a heavy metal band before getting into free jazz . In 1990 he moved to Chicago, where he studied music, a. a. performed at the Southend Musicworks venue and played bass in Anthony Braxton's Workshop Orchestra . First he formed an improvisation collective with Josh Berman and William Pisarri , which only lasted for one concert; from autumn 1991 he worked with his teacher Hal Russell and formed with him the formation The Flying Luttenbachers (which Walter led until 2007). In 1995 he completed his studies with a bachelor's degree in composition.

In the following years he worked in the American alternative rock , jazz, noise and improvisation scene. a. with Marc Edwards , Peter Evans , Vinny Golia , Mary Halvorson , John Lindberg , Mario Rechtern and Damon Smith . In 2000 he presented the album Tribute to Masayuki Takayanagi , in which Jim O'Rourke and Fred Lonberg-Holm participated. He released Eruption (Grob) in 2003 with Lonberg-Holm and Kevin Drumm . With Lydia Lunch , Tim Dahl and Bob Bert he forms the band Lydia Lunch Retrovirus . In 2019 he released the album Flayed (Ugexplode Records) with Jeb Bishop and Alex Ward .
