Mario Rechtern (born December 28, 1942 in Berlin ) is an Austrian musician ( saxophone , clarinet , electronics) in the field of free jazz , no wave and new improvisation music .

Right first learned violin and clarinet, then studied in Salzburg at the Mozarteum in order to continue his studies after gaining his diploma in 1967 in Prague and the University of Wisconsin , where he dealt with Afro-American music and played in the Open Rehearsal Black Music Orchestra in the early 1970s . He came to Vienna in the 1970s , where he was active as a musician in the free jazz scene, working full-time as a stage designer for theater and opera performances in Austria, the Czech Republic and France. In 1981 he founded the Laboratory for (H) armonical Basics and Open Products / Open Rehearsals (L.ABOP and L.ABOR) formation in Vienna , and in 1998 the associated label L.ABOP - LSG as a forum for improvisational music. Since 1996 he has played in the directcomposing orcestra with Reinhard Ziegerhofer and Bill Elgart . He worked u. a. with the Viennese avant-garde musician Fritz Novotny in the formation Reform Art Unit , in which he played with musicians such as Sunny Murray , Paul Fields , Sepp Mitterbauer , Leena Conquest and Linda Sharrock . In the trio formation Shineform with Georg Edlinger and Volker Kagerer he used “recurring rhythms, continuously interwoven and interrupted, minimalist melodies, expanded with sounds electronically alienated, improvisations, loops and structured forms that are broken up by sound collages and the resulting music images. “He also worked in the field of film music, such as in the projects and films Missing Links and Engerling . In New York City he worked with Blaise Siwula and the drummer Weasel Walter , in Boston with the New Language Collaborative led by Eric Zinman .
