Paul Fields

Paul Fields (* 28. July 1943 in Harmannsdorf , Lower Austria as Paul Fickl ) is an Austrian composer , arranger and jazz - and improvisation musicians (violin, occasionally keyboards , soprano saxophone ).

Live and act

Fields is the son of the military music bandmaster Paul "Füzi" Fickl (1892–1954), from whom he also received his first music lessons. Further training as a violinist took place at the Vienna Conservatory , where he also studied. After working for Viennese music publishers, he worked as a professional musician in Viennese dance bands from the age of 19. Between 1965 and 1974 he was engaged as a theater musician at the Theater an der Wien . In 1970 he founded his own ensemble; In addition, he has been exploring free music since 1975 in Fritz Novotny's Reform Art Unit , of which he is still a member today. With Walter Malli and Novotny he was also active as Three Motions in the late 1970s . In 1980 he established his own book, art and music publisher, Fields Edition. He was on international tours with Erika Pluhar and André Heller . Between 1986 and 1989 he was part of the improvisation ensemble Clan Music Overdrive . He can also be heard on albums with Jim Pepper and Rabih Abou-Khalil , Heinz Neubrand, Joschi Schneeberger and with Sigi Maron .

In 1998 he received the Golden Merit Award of the State of Vienna .
