Reinhard Ziegerhofer

Reinhard Ziegerhofer (* 1957 ) is an Austrian jazz bassist and composer.

As a child, Ziegerhofer played the recorder and accordion, later guitar, before joining jazz at the age of seventeen. From 1978 he studied technical chemistry in Graz and also classical double bass at the city's conservatory. From 1981 to 1988 he was a member of the Graz Symphonic Orchestra. He also took part in performances at the Schauspielhaus Graz and the Landestheater Salzburg .

Since 1986 he has worked regularly with the Viennese avant-garde musician Fritz Novotny . From 1986 to 2004 he was a member of the ethno-jazz group Broadlahn . At the Styrian Autumn 1989 he performed with Glen Branca . In 1992 he worked on the duo project Voice meet Bass with the singer Leena Conquest .

1993-1994 he took part in studio recordings and tours of the folk and pop group Papermoon (album The World In Lucy's Eyes ). In the following year he composed the musical Die Geierwally with Andreas Safer , which was performed more than ninety times in Graz. Since 1996 he has worked in the directcomposing orcestra with Mario Rechtern and Bill Elgart . In 1997 he was the musical director of the performance of Gert Steinbäcker's musical Glück at the Schauspielhaus Graz.

Since 1998 Ziegerhofer has also appeared as a bass soloist. In 1999 he became a member of the American Chuck LeMonds ' folk rock band , with whom he toured the USA in 2000. In 2000 he became a member of the feelsaitig group (with Andy Baum , Monika Stadler and Franz Schmuck ) and performed in Italy and Austria in a jazz band with Wolfgang Puschnig , Rick Iannacone and Reinhardt Winkler .

From 2002–03 he performed with Mario Rechtern as Duo BASAX , in addition to which he was artistic director of the transeuropean project in both years . From 2003 to 2006 he formed the Orange jazz group with Richard Winkler , Andreas Wilding and Bernd Schneidhofer .

In 2003 Ziegerhofer founded the Reinhard Ziegerhofer Quartet (with Siegfried Weißenbacher , Bernie Mallinger and Reinhardt Winkler) and his own chamber quartet (with Petra Pirkwieser , Bernie Mallinger and Sabine Kracher-Dimetrik ). He only performs his own composition with both ensembles.

In 2004 he became a member of the ethno-folk group Polka Potente , whose album of the same name was produced from 2006 to 2007. In 2006 his composition Lichtspur der Engel for choir, string orchestra, soprano and marimba was premiered in Graz . In 2007 his solo CD Bass Diary was released .
