Broadlahn is a six-member band from Styria , which belongs to the genre of new folk music , but which feels more like a tendency like " imaginary folklore ", "peasant jazz" or simply alpine ethnomusic.

The group was founded in 1982 as a trio, but three jazz musicians soon joined the three folk musicians.

In their music, Broadlahn combine alpine folk music , jazz and ethnic sounds from Africa and Asia. Five CDs have been released so far: Broadlahn (1990), Leib & Seel (1993), Almrauschen im Weltempfänger (1998), Live (2001), ... vom Rand der Welt ( Extraplatte , 2007).

The group was awarded the German Cabaret Prize in 1993.

The name refers to the local name of the Breitlahnalm in the municipality of Kleinsölk .
