New World Records

New World Records is an American music label based in New York City . It was founded in 1975 and specializes in United States music.

It was created in 1975 with support from the Rockefeller Foundation when a 100 LP Recorded Anthology Of American Music was produced, which presented 200 years of American music. Since then, the label has released over 400 albums from various musical fields, such as traditional music, jazz , classical music , popular songs and experimental music. Artists appearing on New World include Muhal Richard Abrams , ARTE Quartett , Milton Babbitt , Tim Berne , Elliott Carter , Alvin Curran , Marty Ehrlich , Morton Feldman , Ben Johnston , Steve Kuhn , Anne LeBaron , Butch Morris , James Newton , Bern Nix , Harry Partch , Ned Rothenberg , Gunther Schuller , Cecil Taylor and Paul Martin Zonn .

The Grammy Award went to the recording of Samuel Barber's opera Antony and Cleopatra (1984), Leonard Bernstein's operetta Candide (1986) and Ned Rorem's symphonic poems String Symphony / Sunday Morning / Eagles (1989).
