history

On May 14, 1913 New York's former governor approved William Sulzer , the statutes of the Foundation .

The foundation's assets were $ 101,324,576.78, the largest in America with the Carnegie Foundation . It became the life of John D. Rockefeller, Jr.

The foundation works in the following areas

  • Agriculture
  • Culture
  • education
  • health
  • Institute of Medical Research (RIMR) to research the causes, prevention and cures of disease. Today: The Rockefeller University
  • natural Science
  • Peace and conflict
  • Social sciences
  • politics

Over the years the organization has contributed to the advancement of public health and medical education, scientific advancement and social research, advocacy for increased food production, arts and culture, and many other areas of public life around the globe.

At the end of 2001, the foundation's assets were estimated at approximately $ 3.1 billion.

An important sub-organization for Germany was the Abraham Lincoln Foundation (ALS), which during the Weimar period counted many outstanding scientists among its members, awarded scholarships to talented young professionals and generally wanted to promote democratic thought in education. There were also serious mistakes. From 1932 to 1935, the foundation financed, among other things, the twin research of Otmar Freiherr von Verschuer at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Anthropology, Human Heredity and Eugenics in Berlin. The National Socialist journalist Giselher Wirsing received an ALS scholarship for a longer stay in America when he was young. After his return he developed into one of the most aggressive anti-American in Nazi journalism, where he acted as an expert due to his trip. He kept this line for life, also later with Christ and the world .
