Paul Martin Zonn

Paul Martin Zonn (born January 16, 1938 in Boston , † December 8, 2000 in Nashville ) was an American clarinetist , composer and conductor .

Life

Paul Martin Zonn received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa in 1966 with a thesis on Concerto for clarinet and orchestra. From 1970 he worked at the University of Illinois , School of Music as a teacher. His work covers a very broad musical spectrum from light music to avant-garde . As a clarinetist he enjoyed a high reputation as an interpreter of new music , he worked on records and played as a soloist in Carnegie Hall , Tanglewood and at the Ravinia Festival . As a composer he wrote works for a wide variety of instrumentations, from solo works to chamber music to orchestral works. As a conductor he has worked for the University of Illinois, the Contemporary Chamber Players and the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble .
