Rossiya -class is the name of a series of river and canal-running inland passenger motor ships of medium-sized design, which was also known as Project 785 or OL800 (Slovak: osobna lod 800 - German: passenger ship 800 hp).

history

The river cruise line was manufactured from 1952 to 1958. The Slovak shipyard Narodny Podnik Škoda in Komárno (today Slovenské Lodenice Komárno, at that time part of the Škoda Group ) built three series, the first of which was slightly smaller. With 36 units built, the type is one of the most successful designs of its kind. The naming was divided into two parts, the first 16 ships, starting with the type ship Rossiya , were given country names by Soviet republics, followed by 20 ships named after Russian composers. The ships are mainly used on inland services on the rivers Volga , Kama , Don , Yenisei , Ob , Irtysh and Dnepr . Later, with the advent of more modern tonnage on the Volga, the ships were used on other inland shipping areas, but sometimes also laid up as hotel ships or given to smaller inland shipping companies.

technology

The individual ships differ, depending on the variant, due to minor differences in the size of the ship, the equipment with different engine types and other special features with which they were tailored to the respective application. The ships have a diesel-electric drive with two main engines.

The hulls of the individual series differ in the way that the hulls of the first series were slightly smaller, those of the second series a little larger and those of the third series with the same dimensions as those of the second series had a small ice class that also allowed operation in made possible in colder regions. The ships have fixed superstructures with two decks arranged over almost the entire deck area . The ships were built with single and double cabins as well as 4-, 6- and 8-bed cabins, all with washing facilities. There are also two restaurants and two common rooms available. The multi-bed cabins were later modernized, which led to a reduction in passenger capacity and increased travel comfort. Two of the original four lifeboats remained after the modifications. The ships have a carrying capacity of around 25 tons.
