The Azerbaydzhan ( Russian Азербайджан , transcription: Azerbaijan ' ) is a river cruise ship that was built in 1953 in Czechoslovakia in the shipyard Narodny Podnik Škoda in Komárno (today Slovenské Lodenice Komárno, at that time part of the Škoda-owned Rossiya- Klasse group ) (Project 785 / OL800) belongs. The ship bears the name of Azerbaijan , one of the 16 Soviet republics of the former Soviet Union.

The river cruise ship with two passenger decks was built in 1953 at the Slovak shipyard Narodny Podnik Škoda in Komárno as Azerbaydzhan for the shipping company " Wolzhskoje Gruzo-passazhirskoje Parochodstwo " (Volga freight passenger shipping company) in Gorky . She belonged to a series of 36 ships of the type Rossiya , which was manufactured from 1952 to 1958 , which was also known as "Project 785" or "OL800" (Slovak: osobna lod 800 - German: passenger ship 800 hp). The Azerbaydzhan has a diesel-electric drive with two main engines and was used on routes Moscow - Rostov-on-Don , from 1959 to 1961 Gorky - Astrakhan , from 1961 to 1986 Perm -Astrahan. 1986–1988 the ship was used as a hotel near Chernobyl in Ukraine and written off in 1988. After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the ship was operated as a water sports base under the Ukrainian flag with Sevastopol as its home port.
