Melocactus praerupticola is a species of the genus Melocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet praerupticola is derived from the Latin words praerupta for 'steep slope' and -cola for 'inhabiting' and refers to the inaccessible rocky habitat of the species.

Melocactus praerupticola grows with dark green, depressed spherical, often asymmetrical shoots , which reach heights of 5.5 to 11 centimeters with diameters of 8 to 10.5 centimeters. There are ten to eleven broad, blunt and slightly wavy ribs . The horn-yellow to brown or cloudy, slightly pink thorns are inconspicuous and strong. The two to three slightly upwardly curved central spines are 1.4 to 3 centimeters long. The nine to ten radial spines, which are also slightly upward, are 2 to 2.5 centimeters long. The small cephalium , which consists of very fine, yellowish to ash-gray bristles , is 1.3 to 3.2 centimeters high and 3 to 4.5 centimeters in diameter.
The pink to light pink flowers are 2.3 to 2.8 centimeters long and 1.5 to 1.8 centimeters in diameter. They protrude 6 to 7 millimeters from the cephalium. The fruits, which are red at the top, are 2 to 2.4 centimeters long and 7 to 9 millimeters in diameter.

Melocactus praerupticola is common in the Dominican Republic .
It was first described in 2000 by L. Alberto E. Areces-Mallea .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
