Sara Schoenbeck
Sara Schoenbeck is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( bassoon , shehnai ).
Live and act
Schoenbeck holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Masters degree from the California Institute of the Arts . From the mid-1990s she worked in the ensembles of Anthony Braxton ( Quartet / Quintet (NYC) 2011 ), Vinny Golia , Wayne Horvitz , Steuart Liebig , Wadada Leo Smith , Phillip Greenlief and Butch Morris . In the 2010s she also played with her own trio, a trio made up of Joe Morris and Taylor Ho Bynum as well as with Mark Dresser , Harris Eisenstadt and Michael Moore in the Golden State quartet , and she also performed at European festivals such as the Berlin Jazz Days and the Free Music Festival Antwerp. In the field of jazz, she was involved in 28 recording sessions between 1996 and 2012. a. with Roscoe Mitchell and with the Yusef Lateef / Adam Rudolph 's GO Organic Orchestra.
The Wire magazine accepted Schoenbeck into the “little club of bassoon pioneers” of contemporary music; The New York Times highlighted her "captivating, texture- mixing experiments with a great, sovereign sound." She lives mainly in Los Angeles, where she has also worked on television and film projects such as the Matrix Trilogy (1999-2003), Dahmer (2002) and Spanglish (2004). Schoenbeck is in a relationship with Harris Eisenstadt, with whom she has a son (* 2009).
