The psychological thriller Dahmer from the year 2002 tells the biography and "career" of the American serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer .

action

The plot of the film begins in a chocolate factory in Milwaukee , Wisconsin : the young white Jeffrey Dahmer leads an inconspicuous life as a band worker. In his spare time he looks out for young, mostly homosexual men. He addresses them in department stores, bars, pubs and other public places and invites them to his home. There he numbs her with drinks. He first photographs them, then masturbates and performs sadistic experiments on them before he murders them. He kills 17 men this way in the greater Milwaukee area. At the same time, however, he questions his actions and excuses them with the divorce of his parents and the lack of recognition from his parents' home.

Only when the young African-American Rodney escapes from Dahmer's apartment, the officers manage to arrest him. The film closes with the note that Jeffrey Dahmer was murdered by a fellow inmate in 1994 after serving two years of his life sentence.

Background information

With targeted film cuts, Dahmer's youth is also shown, his relationship with his parents, and at least tries to give clues for his later actions.

Although the script reflects the actual events, the names of the victims have been changed for personal rights. Rodney's real name was Tracy Edwards, and Dahmer's first victim was not Lance Bell, but Steven Hicks.

Regarding Tracy Edwards (in the film: Rodney) it must be noted that he was actually 32 years old, but was played by a 21-year-old actor in the film .

The film was shot in Los Angeles and on location in Milwaukee. The film, which had a production cost of USD 250,000, grossed USD 16,093 after two screenings - the premiere took place on June 21, 2002 - for total grossing USD 144,008.

The mask effects were created by Christien Tinsley and Kelley Mitchell , who two years later, in 2004, provided the makeup for Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ .
