Dave Sewelson

David "Dave" Sewelson (* 1952 in Oakland , California ) is an American jazz musician ( baritone saxophone , baritone horn , harmonica , vocals ).

Live and act

Sewelson learned the trumpet at the age of nine before switching to the baritone horn at the age of eleven. After playing the drums, he took up the electric bass at the age of 13, before making the baritone saxophone his main instrument as a young adult. In 1978 he moved to New York City and settled in the East Village , where he played with various avant-garde bands. The 25 O'Clock Band (with Robin Holcomb and Wayne Horvitz ), a trio with David Hofstra and Richard Dworkin , Jemeel Moondoc's Jus Grew Orchestra , the formations Noise R Us and Mofungo (both with Phillip Johnston ), Freedomland and Almost 'n Bulbous (with Joe Fiedler and Gary Lucas ). Sewelson was a founding member of the Microscopic Septet with William Parker and played for many years in William Parker's Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra . In the field of jazz he was involved in 41 recording sessions between 1976 and 2000. In 1981 he published the album Synchro-Incity under his own name . In 2002 he performed a Captain Beefheart project at the Saalfelden Jazz Festival .
