Boy Raaymakers

Boy Raaymakers (* 1944 ; † December 30 or 31, 2018 ) was a Dutch jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , composition).

Raaymakers studied at the Conservatory in Arnhem and was the mid-1960s the driving jazz innovator in Nijmegen . He first played in the local Charlestown Jazz Band Dixieland . In 1967 he switched to free jazz . In the same year he toured Europe with Pierre Courbois' Free Music Quintet . Then he started his own group that included Burton Greene and Noel McGhee . He was involved in recording new music and played in the bands of Boy Edgar , Theo Loevendie and Orkest De Boventon , of which he was co-leader with Herman de Wit between 1979 and 1989. In 1974 Willem Breuker brought him into his collection as a founding member , to which he remained committed for more than three decades (until 2006). He also founded his own quartet with Maarten van Norden in 1977 , which initially included Arjen Gorter and Rob Verdurmen and which released the LP Chicken Song in 1979 . He also played in the Waterland Big Band of Loek Dikker , in the band of JC Tans ( Around the World ) and accompanied with the sextet of Michiel Braam greetje bijma . He can also be heard on albums by Gruppo Sportivo and Sean Bergin .
