Hermine Deurloo (born March 8, 1966 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch harmonica player and saxophonist of modern jazz .

Live and act

Deurloo, daughter of the theology professor Karel Adriaan Deurloo , first began to play the recorder . Then she switched to the cello . She showed an early interest in jazz and played in ska and reggae bands . She studied alto saxophone at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. She then started playing the chromatic harmonica in 1994, which became her preferred instrument.

In the following years she worked with artists such as Al Jarreau , Sezen Aksu , the Alessi Brothers , Han Bennink , Candy Dulfer , John Engels , Denise Jannah , the Concertgebouw Orchestra , Loes Luca , the Metropole Orkest , Tony Scherr , Toots Thielemans and Rembrandt Frerichs together.

Deurloo has been part of the Willem Breuker Kollektief since 1999 , went on tour with them through Europe, Asia and America, and took part in various recordings by the group such as Honger , Dorst , Misery , Jona and Faust . She can also be heard as a harmonica player on film scores as well as television and advertising productions and has appeared with Andy Bruce & the Rigidly Righteous .

In 2018 Deurloo won the Bernie Bray Harmonica Player of the Year Award.
