Rembrandt Frerichs
Rembrandt Frerichs (* 1977 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( piano , composition ).
Live and act
Frerichs studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag and the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts . He graduated with honors in The Hague. At the age of 22 he made his debut at the North Sea Jazz Festival . Rembrandt plays in various ensembles of his own such as the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio, Chiaroscuro and (with Vinsent Planjer and Yoram Lachish) Levantasy ; he also worked with Michael Brecker , the New Trombone Collective , Marnix Busstra , Michel Godard and Hermine Deurloo . In addition to jazz, he is inspired by classical European music as well as Arabic music , for which he developed a passion during a two-year stay in Egypt.
Frerichs is the main subject teacher for jazz piano at the Tilburg Conservatory and has worked as a guest teacher at the Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht Conservatories. He is also the artistic director of various cultural events such as the Rabo Jazz Festival (Oud-Beijerland), the Waterfront Jazz Club (Almere) and the Regentenkamer (The Hague).
His debut album Self Portrait was nominated for an Edison Award ; In 2014 his album A Long Story Short was nominated for this prestigious Dutch award.
