Revolution is a series of track cycling competitions that have been held in the UK since 2003 .

Until the 2012/2013 winter season, Revolution took place exclusively in the Manchester Velodrome . From the 2012/2013 season onwards, the revolution will only take place three times in Manchester and a closing event at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow . As of 2014, the Lee Valley Velodrome in London was added as a further venue, and the series was expanded to five events. The races are regularly sold out.

The concept

The competition was introduced in 2003 so that the British cycling public can see international stars outside of official competitions. It comprises around 20 races in quick succession. Since 2007 there is also Revolution in Australia, based on the same concept.

There are three types of races: the Elite Championship , UCI races and junior races for the Future Stars . The races of the Elite Championship are carried out by teams. In the UCI races, the athletes can earn points for the world rankings.

Numerous international drivers have taken part in the races so far, including Chris Hoy , Theo Bos , Arnaud Tournant , Jason Kenny , Victoria Pendleton , Jamie Staff , Jens Fiedler , Grégory Baugé , Ross Edgar , Craig MacLean , Jason Queally , René Wolff , Jan van Eijden , Florian Rousseau , Stefan Nimke , Maximilian Levy , Teun Mulder , Robert Förstemann , Mickaël Bourgain , Willy Kanis , Christin Muche and Clara Sanchez in the short-term disciplines.

Once a year, the Isaac Galvez Memorial Madison takes place in a two-man team , named after the Spanish racing driver who died in a six-day accident in Ghent in 2006 , a few days before he was due to start at Revolution for the first time . From 2014 the British championship in two-man team driving will also be held as part of Revolution .
