Harlow is a town in Essex in south east England . It was founded in 1947 as a New Town from the hamlets of Harlow, Great Parndon, Latton, Little Parndon and Netteswell and is now one of the largest northeastern suburbs in London with around 80,000 inhabitants . Administratively, Harlow is both a city and a district in Essex.

Harlow was the first British city to have a downtown pedestrian zone; In addition, the country's first residential high-rise was built here in 1951; it is now a listed building.

location

Harlow is about 30 km northeast of central London. It has a motorway connection to the M11 (London-Cambridge) and a train station on the London-Cambridge route. The River Stort flows in the north, as well as the Todd Brook in the south and the Canons Brook in the west of the city.
