Uttlesford is a district in Essex , England . The administrative seat is Saffron Walden ; other significant places are Felsted , Flitch Green , Great Dunmow , Stebbing , Stansted Mountfitchet and Thaxted .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of Borough Saffron Walden and the rural districts Dunmow and Saffron Walden. In 2001 a survey by the Sunday Times newspaper found that Uttlesford is the region with the highest quality of life in England. London Stansted Airport is a major employer .
