Banyan Tree Holdings Limited ( SGX : B58 ) is a publicly traded tourism group based in Singapore . The company, originally from Thailand , operates under the brand names Banyan Tree and Angsana worldwide over 26 luxury hotels and resorts , 65 spas , 70 retail stores and 3 golf courses (as of 2010).

history

Banyan Tree Holdings emerged from the Thai Wah Resorts Development Company , founded in 1983 , which in 1984 acquired large areas of land from a disused tin mine on Bangtao Bay on Phuket in southern Thailand and built the Laguna Phuket resort complex, which opened in 1987 . The company was subsequently renamed Laguna Resorts and Hotels (LRH) and listed in the SET Index on the Thai stock exchange from 1993 . In 1994 the Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts division was founded and the new brand's first resort opened on Phuket; The Angsana brand was added in 2000. In the same year the company was restructured and the holding company Banyan Tree Holdings was founded, which has been listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange since 2006 .

Resorts

Most of the hotel complexes are located in Thailand, China (since 2005) and the Maldives . There are also hotels in India, Sri Lanka, Laos, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia, the Seychelles, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco. The company has also been represented in Mexico since 2009. Hotels in Vietnam, Mauritius, Oman, the Philippines, Egypt, Greece and Portugal are under construction.
