Ian A. Banbury (born November 27, 1957 in Hemel Hempstead ) is a retired British cyclist.
1976 Ian Banbury won at the Olympic Games in Montreal the bronze medal in the team pursuit , together with Mick Bennett , Robin Croker and Ian Hallam . At 18, he was the youngest British participant in these games. The British foursome was eliminated in the semifinals against the German team, but won the race for the bronze medal against the team from the GDR . The British team won the eighth bronze medal in this discipline at the Olympic Games.
In 1978 Banbury turned pro but almost never started outside of the UK. In his home country he successfully competed in numerous smaller races. As an amateur, he won an amateur six-day race in Montreal and started as a professional in the six-day race at Wembley in 1979 . In the same year he also took part in the rail world championships in Amsterdam . In 1985 he became British road racing champion .
His daughter is the model and multiple beauty queen April Banbury .
