Dave Bedwell
Dave Bedwell (born August 28, 1928 in Romford , † February 28, 1999 in Kingskerwell , Devon ) was a British cyclist .
Athletic career
In 1949, Dave Bedwell was the British amateur road racing champion . The following year he won the Grand Prix de l'Humanité in Paris , which was sponsored by the socialist newspaper L'Humanité .
In 1951 Bedwell became a professional driver and won the national road race title in his first year as a professional. In the following years he was particularly active and successful in races in Great Britain - he won the Tour of the Peaks in 1954, 1960 and 1961 - was British road racing champion for a second time in 1961 and won a total of four stages of the Tour of Britain . He also started in smaller races in France , where he achieved top places. In 1955 he took part in the Tour de France , but gave up after the third stage. He started in 1956 at the UCI World Championships in Road Driving in Copenhagen for the British national team and finished 19th. In 1959 he drove the International Peace Tour and came in ninth overall. In 1964 he ended his cycling career.
