Immensee is a village that belongs to the political municipality of Küssnacht in the Swiss canton of Schwyz .

The village of Immensee is nestled between the Rigi north flank and the Chiemen peninsula in a bay on Lake Zug at an altitude of 416 m above sea level. M.

history
Immensee was first mentioned in 1048 as Imisee , then in 1260 as lacus Ymmois . The name comes from the Ritter Immo von Buonas, who owned the fishing rights here on Lake Zug. The Hohle Gasse , which connects the community with the district capital Küssnacht , also became famous .
This is where the assassination of Bailiff Hermann Gessler by Wilhelm Tell is said to have taken place in 1307 . In 1798 fights against the French took place in Immensee and in 1847 skirmishes in the Sonderbund War .
The transit location Immensee was particularly affected by the traffic development. The first steamship operated on Lake Zug in 1852 . In 1882, the Gotthard connection to the Aargau Southern Railway was implemented in the Immensee station .
In 1896 the Savoy priest Pierre Barral founded the Bethlehem Mission House and the Immensee grammar school .
