The private, in the canton of Schwyz located coeducational school Immensee with attached boarding school has its origin in the Apostolic School of Bethlehem , by Pierre-Marie Barral was founded in 1895 and 1896 based on Immensee moved. Today the "Gymi", as it is called in the Küssnacht district, is a private high school which is based on a humanistic attitude and an enlightened, Christian view of man.
history
Originally, the boarding school was supposed to enable poor boys from Catholic families to prepare for work as missionaries . In 1995, the Immensee Gymnasium Foundation was established under private law. The foundation then later also took over the associated properties. The Immensee grammar school is now run as a private middle school.
high school
The school management consists of the rector Benno Planzer, who is supported by two vice-rectors and one vice-rector. In the 2017/2018 school year, around 350 students in 16 classes were taught by around 50 teachers.
Subjects and learning opportunities include biology, artistic design, chemistry, Chinese, German, English, French, singing, geography, history, Greek, home economics, computer science, Italian, piano, Latin, mathematics, music, pedagogy, philosophy, physics, psychology , Spanish, Sports, Law, Religion, Theater, Economics, and courses for the Cambridge Diploma and ECDL Certificate .
The catchment area for schoolchildren are the cantons, Aargau, Lucerne, Schwyz, Zug and Zurich. The Immensee grammar school runs a long-term and a short-term grammar school in accordance with the Swiss Matura recognition regulations. The school has its own right of examination (house Matura). A total of 8 major and 13 supplementary subjects are open to learners.
The day school is almost unique at the grammar school level: the learners spend their school day together on the school campus, benefit from a cafeteria and have a personal workplace. In addition, they have the opportunity to be supported by the teaching staff in their specialist studies. At lunchtime you can visit free subjects or the gym, the outdoor areas and the fitness room allow you to do sports.
School reform
Various reform steps have taken place at the Immensee grammar school since 1985. Today long lessons lasting 70 minutes and epoch lessons form the teaching structures. Only the foreign languages are not taught in epochs. A specialty of the Immensee high school was the introduction of SOL ( self-organized learning ). This learning vessel is now used by numerous high schools. The framework conditions differ from school to school. The Zürcher Oberland Cantonal School even conducts self-study semesters.
Boarding school
There are currently around 60 students living in the boarding school, who have their rooms in the Barralhaus and in the upper secondary school building.
