action
The two owners of radio station WHY , Spud Miller and Smiley Goodwin, are the only staff on their station and assume various roles. Miller is the only announcer, Goodwin gives the station's singer, whom he gives the legendary name Lochinvar . He is described as a great lover and an idol by millions of women. With the station on the verge of bankruptcy, George Burns and Gracie Allen’s offer to purchase an invitation to a radio competition comes in handy. The prize is a $ 250,000 Radio Eye (formerly the name for television) developed by Gracie Allen's uncle. But the $ 5,000 that must be raised to participate is missing. Further problems arise when Countess Ysobel, owner of the Caribbean island of Clementi and a big fan of Lochinvar , receives a letter from the latter.
Her joy only lasts for a short time when she realizes that she is not the only one who has received such a letter and that it is not a love letter. She comes to the radio station to shoot Lochinvar , but the gun doesn't work. Thus Miller and Goodwin can convince the Countess to invest $ 5,000 so that Miller can enter the competition. However, the condition is that both accompany her to her island, where she will decide which of the two should marry her at midnight. Meanwhile, however, she wants to murder Gordoni. When the two become aware of this, they send a 911 call to Burns and Allen in New York. They set off on a rescue operation. Meanwhile Gordoni gave the countess a sleeping pill. Miller and Goodwin escape and are rescued in the harbor by Burns and Allen, who came with the coast guard. Miller finally wins the competition and agrees to marry the Countess after a period of getting to know each other. However, this refuses and is limited to a friendship.
