Mary Anne Boland (born January 28, 1880 in Detroit , Michigan , † June 23, 1965 in New York City , New York ) was an American actress .

Life

She made her film debut in 1915. In the 1930s and 1940s she starred alongside Charles Laughton , Gary Cooper , Laurel and Hardy , Norma Shearer and Bing Crosby . In the early 1930s, she formed a popular screen couple with Charles Ruggles in a number of inexpensive comedies at the time . While Boland usually adopted the domineering wife type, as in other films, Ruggles played the long-suffering, oppressed husband. She played her most famous roles in 1939 in The Women and a year later as Mrs. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice . The actress also appeared repeatedly on Broadway from 1907 to 1954 . Most recently, Mary Boland was also seen in television productions.

In 1955 she withdrew into private life. Ten years later, she died at the age of 85. Mary Boland has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (6150 Hollywood Blvd.)
