Benjamin Glazer
Benjamin Glazer (born May 7, 1887 in Belfast , † March 18, 1956 in Hollywood ) was an American screenwriter , film producer and director . He was a founding member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and won two Academy Awards .
Life
Benjamin Glazer was born in Ireland and later immigrated to the United States. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania Law and graduated in 1906 from.
In 1921 he translated Ferenc Molnár's play Liliom into English. This translation was used for the first Broadway production and the 1930 film of the same name. From 1921 he began writing screenplays for films and was a founding member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1927 , which has been awarding the Oscar since 1929 . At the first Academy Awards, he received the award for the best adapted screenplay for Das Glück in der Mansarde . He received the second award together with Hans Székely in 1941 for the best original story . During his career he wrote over 50 screenplays, the last one in 1967, and made nearly 30 films. He was married to actress Sharon Lynn .
