Virginia Weidler (born March 21, 1927 in Eagle Rock , Los Angeles , California - † July 1, 1968 in Los Angeles, California) was an American child star in Hollywood in the 1930s and early 1940s.

Live and act

Virginia Weidler was born as the daughter of a German immigrant family, her father was the architect Alfred Weidler, the mother Margaret Theresa Luise Weidler had worked as an opera singer in Germany. Weidler was discovered and promoted by John Barrymore , and she also appeared in some of his films. She had her first small role at the age of four in the Warner Baxter film Surrender (1931).

Virginia Weidler made her breakthrough in 1934 with a supporting role in Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch for Paramount Pictures . Under MGM contract since 1938 , she played some of her best-known roles there, including appearances in The Women (1939) as the daughter of Norma Shearer and in The Night Before the Wedding (1940) as the clever sister of Katharine Hepburn . Weidler was considered a natural talent who could steal scenes from even the big Hollywood stars with her depictions. Her success declined in the early 1940s, also because the child star Shirley Temple of the same age signed with MGM and took away the roles. Weidlers last of 45 films, the musical was best foot forward from the year 1943. She then tried a career as a nightclub singer and entered 1945 in the Broadway -Stück The Rich Full Life , but withdrew after their marriage from show business.

She was married to Lionel Krisel from 1947 until her death and the couple had two sons. Virginia Weidler suffered from a weak heart and died of a heart attack in 1968 at the age of only 41.
