Wendy Barrie
Wendy Barrie (born April 18, 1912 in Hong Kong as Marguerite Wendy Jenkins , † February 2, 1978 in Englewood , New Jersey, USA) was a British actress .
Life
The daughter of a British lawyer was playing in English theaters as a teenager before making her film debut with threads in 1932 . Then she was signed by Alexander Korda and soon achieved her first major success with Six Women and a King at the side of Charles Laughton and Merle Oberon . In 1934 she went to Hollywood where she was signed by Fox and starred in the romantic comedy It's a small world alongside Spencer Tracy . In 1936 she was loaned to MGM and played alongside James Stewart in Speed . Three years later she achieved world fame with the Sherlock Holmes classic The Hound of Baskerville , where she played the leading female role alongside Basil Rathbone.
In the 1940s she withdrew from the film business and only appeared occasionally in television programs, such as in 1948 in the children's comedy The Adventures of Oky Doky . In the same year she began her career as a host of various shows. In 1962, Wendy Barrie retired from acting.
Wendy Barrie has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (1708 Vine Street). She died of a stroke at the age of 65.
