The 72nd Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2017 was a Belgian road bike race in Flanders . The one-day race started and ended in Ghent after 198.3 km . It was held on Saturday , February 25, 2017 . The bike race was part of the UCI WorldTour 2017 and was the third of a total of 37 races in this series.
Last year's winner Greg Van Avermaet from Belgium from BMC Racing won the race in the sprint of a 3-man leading group, ahead of world champion Peter Sagan . Sagan took the initiative about 45 kilometers from the finish and placed his attack on the approach towards Wolvenberg . Only the current Olympic champion Greg van Avermaet and Sep Vanmarcke could follow him.
