Race course
A three-man escape group determined the race up to about 15 kilometers from the finish. Also in the escape group were Tosh Van der Sande (Belgium / Lotto Soudal), Baptiste Planckaert (Belgium / Katusha) and Tyler Williams (USA / Israel Cycling Academy). A good 20 kilometers before the finish, the escape group gradually fell apart and were put back from the field, as the last driver of the three drivers Planckaert. Then Jasha Sütterlin (Germany / Movistar) attacked and several drivers followed him. But there was no agreement in this group and so this group was caught up again. There were further attacks from the peloton, among others by Rigoberto Urán (Columbia / Cannondale), Roman Kreuziger (Czech Republic / Orica) and Sean De Bie (Belgium / Lotto Soudal). All of these attacks did not lead to success and so a larger group of leaders sprinted. Peter Sagan won this sprint ahead of Greg Van Avermaet and Michael Matthews (Australia / Sunweb).
