The 16th stage of the Tour de France 2017 took place on July 18, 2017. The stage led over 165 kilometers from Le Puy-en-Velay in the Massif Central to Romans-sur-Isère in the Rhone Valley . Then the stage was on the flat, where there was an intermediate sprint after 121.5 kilometers in Chantelmere-les-Bles .

The stage winner in the sprint of the Vorderfeld was Michael Matthews , whose team Sunweb made sure that a group u. a. lost touch with his competitor in the battle for the green jersey , Marcel Kittel . The previous overall fifth Daniel Martin and the previous overall ninth Louis Meintjes , who lost 51 seconds with the second group, and the previous overall tenth Alberto Contador , who lost 1:33 minutes in the third group, were missing in the first group . Chris Froome , on the other hand, defended his yellow jersey as 13th in the first group .
