The 17th stage of the Tour de France 2017 took place on July 19, 2017. The mountain stage led over 183 kilometers from La Mure to Serre Chevalier . There was an intermediate sprint after 47.5 kilometers in Allemont and four mountain classifications , including the Col de la Croix de Fer and the Col du Galibier, two of the hors categorie , one of the first and one of the second category. The special souvenir Henri Desgrange prize was awarded on the Col du Galibier .

The winner was Primož Roglič , who was able to break away from a breakaway group at Col du Galibier around 35 kilometers from the finish, which also included Alberto Contador , who was awarded the red shirt number as the most combative driver. Behind this group, after several attacks by Romain Bardet, a chasing group formed, which included the overall leader Chris Froome , but not the former overall runner-up Fabio Aru . Michael Matthews took over the green jersey from Marcel Kittel , who had a bad crash at the beginning of the stage and had to give up the race.
