Petrus Van Theemsche

Petrus "Piet" Van Theemsche (born August 15, 1915 in Lokeren ; † May 28, 1999 there ) was a Belgian cyclist .

Even as a junior and amateur, Petrus Van Theemsche, known as "Lokerse Piet", was able to achieve numerous victories in 1931; In 1935 he switched to the pros and as such won many “fair races” in Belgium. In 1938 he was Belgian road racing champion in Francorchamps . As such, he took part in the Giro d'Italia in 1939 and was 44. The outbreak of World War II ended his cycling career.

Van Theemsche, who was very much appreciated for his sociable manner, opened the “Francorchamps” café in his hometown Lokeren, which still exists today. He later worked as a house painter. His daughter married the Belgian world champion Theo Verschueren .
