Emiel Van Cauter

Emiel Van Cauter (born December 2, 1931 in Meusegem , † October 26, 1975 in Bangkok ) was a Belgian cyclist .

In 1954, Emiel Van Cauter was an amateur road world champion in Solingen . The year before, he had already finished second in the Belgian amateur road championship behind Rik Van Looy , as his equal competitor he was considered. In 1955 he moved to the pros and became Belgian road racing champion in the same year. The hopes placed in him were great; However, he ended his career in 1958 without having achieved any further successes.

After finishing his cycling career, Van Cauter successfully started a gaming machine company; In 1972 he sponsored the cycling team " Van Cauter-Magniflex-de Gribaldy " led by Rik Van Linden . In 1975, at the age of 44, he was murdered under mysterious circumstances while on vacation in Thailand. His body has been transferred and he is buried in his hometown.

Emiel Van Cauter was the father of the Belgian politician Carina Van Tittelboom-Van Cauter .
