Allegro Grandi

Allegro Grandi (born January 19, 1907 in San Pietro in Casale , † April 23, 1973 in Caracas ) was an Italian , later Venezuelan cyclist and world champion.

In 1926, Allegro Grandi was Italian amateur road racing champion and finished fifth at the 1927 UCI Road World Championships for amateurs, the following year he won the Giro della Romagna . In 1928 he became world champion of the amateurs in road racing in Budapest , finished fourth in this discipline at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam and came second in the Tour of Lombardy .

Then Grandi became a professional. In 1929 he won the Coppa Bernocchi , the Giro dell'Emilia and finished fifth in the Giro d'Italia . In 1930, he was fifth in the road World Championships of professionals , third in the Giro and the Italian Road Championship and won the Grand Prix du Centenaire . In 1933 he was fifth in the Giro and won the overall ranking of the Predappio-Rome race .

In 1934 Allegro Grandi emigrated to Venezuela, accepted citizenship there and became national champion three times. He later opened a bicycle shop in Venezuela. In 1973 he committed suicide because of high debts.
