Sante Ranucci

Sante Ranucci (born October 31, 1933 in Montefiascone , Italy ) is a former Italian cyclist . In 1955 he became world amateur champion of the road drivers .

Athletic career

Ranucci was already successful as a youth driver when he won several national road races in his age group. In the men's field, too, he initially remained as an amateur in road cycling, where he made a name for himself in 1952 with a second place in the Italian race Coppa Bartali . After winning the Italian Grand Premio di Camaiore in 1954, 1955 became the most successful year of his amateur career. In addition to three victories in the Italian criteria , he competed in the 1955 road world championship for amateurs and became world champion.

Ranucci then moved to the professional driver camp , where the small Italian racing team Legnano signed him for two years. Even though he later changed racing teams several times, he did not win any more races until the end of his career. He took part in the Giro d'Italia several times , but was only able to convince in the 1958 race , where he was now driving for Torpado (Italy) in several stages and came twelfth in the final classification. He drove his last Giro race in 1963 for the Italian team Cité and was 34 in the end. After another year in the Cité jersey, Ranucci ended his career as a professional driver at the age of 31.
