Pierino Bertolazzo

Pierino Bertolazzo (born April 17, 1906 in Vercelli , † February 16, 1964 in Diano Marina ) was an Italian cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

In 1926 Pierino Bertolazzo (also Pietro Bertolazzo) came second in the Giro di Lombardia for amateurs. He won the Coppa Citta di Asti in 1928 and 1930. 1929 was the year of his greatest success, he won the road race of the UCI World Championship for Amateurs in Zurich . In the world championship race, for which 29 drivers (including the Italians Bertolazzo, Bertoni and Gestri ) competed, Bertolazzo secured victory in a sprint of a group of 16 drivers at the end of the race ahead of his compatriot Remo Bertoni. At the World Cup the following year, he finished 9th. He then became a professional driver, albeit without achieving any results worth mentioning.
