Mario Gestri

Mario Gestri (born February 11, 1924 in Tizzana , Quarrata , † December 2, 1953 in Montecatini ) was an Italian racing cyclist .

Mario Gestri was a professional cyclist from 1950. He became best known for wearing the black jersey of the last one at the Giro d'Italia in 1950 . Gestri was affectionately known as "the water carrier of the Giro" because he tirelessly and reliably fetched water for his respective captains, including Gino Bartali and Fiorenzo Magni , at four Giro events . However, he was denied his own successes.

In 1953, Mario Gestri had a fatal accident on his motorcycle.
