Renato Bongioni

Renato Bongioni (born October 14, 1941 in Brescia , Italy ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Athletic career

Bongioni was active as a road rider during his cycling career . He started racing at the age of 15, three of which he won in his first year as an active. By 1959 he had already won over 30 victories. After joining the men's division, he remained an amateur until 1962 and 1962 had his most successful year as a cyclist. The highlight of the year was winning the World Amateur Road Driving Championship in Brescia, home. He also won the Fur Industry Grand Prix and the Ezio del Rosso GP.

In 1963, Bongioni moved to the professional paddock , where he initially rode for three years for the Italian cycling team Molteni . In those years he only came in the top ten once when he finished seventh at the Giro dell'Appennino in 1965 . Twice he came in the longest Italian classic road race Milan-Sanremo in the classification, 1963 was 26th and 1964 89. For Molteni he also achieved his only place in the Giro d'Italia . There he came in 1964 out of 97 drivers ranked 93rd. In the Giros 1963 and 1968 he retired prematurely. From 1966 to 1968 Bongioni changed the racing team annually , was with the Swiss Queen Anne in 1966, with Vittadello in 1967 and with Pepsi-Cola in 1968, both from Italy. As the driver of Queen Anne, he finished third in the Northwestern Switzerland Tour in 1966 . In 1967 he drove his last big stage race , in the Tour of Spain he was 53 out of 73 ranked. In 1968 he ended his career as a professional driver without having achieved a victory.
