André Gevers

André Gevers (also Adrianus or Ad ) (born August 19, 1952 in Schijndel ) is a former Dutch cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

André Gevers had his first major success with a stage win in the Tour de l'Avenir in 1973. In 1974 he was part of the squad of the Dutch national team in the International Peace Tour , which he finished 45th in the overall classification. The following year he had his most successful season. He became world champion in the amateur road race and won eight other races. The victories in the Tour of Eastern Switzerland and in the Flêche d'Or couple time trial stood out. He started in the run-up to the world championship on the GDR tour . There he was second in the individual time trial behind Harald Wolf and finished the tour as 43rd. A year later he won stages at the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe , Tour d'Indre-et-Loire and the Tour of the Netherlands . In the same year he became a professional driver for the French team Leujeune-BP. As a professional he had four wins. He was also at the start in classics such as Paris-Roubaix , but could not place in the front field. 1983 he ended his career.
